Why you can't afford to NOT have an attorney
Often times potential clients are deterred from seeking legal counsel because of the expense. Although this may seem like a solution, it is really a temporary fix to a long term problem.
In all cases the final judgment that is executed by the Court is seen as concrete and is to not be modified short of a substantial change in circumstances or extenuating circumstances, or in more serious cases, not modifiable at all. Unrepresented litigants are not able to anticipate the needs or issues that can arise in their cases and end up being locked into agreements that are not feasible in the long term.
For example, clients have agreed to time-sharing schedules that accommodate the child's schedule and parents’ schedule during elementary school, but fail once the child joins activities or starts middle/high school. Or clients will enter into a Marital Settlement Agreement with the belief that they can modify it as needed amongst the parties because they have a good relationship, but when the parties can no longer agree or their relationship deteriorates, they are stuck with an agreement that does not best suit the needs of a party or the family.
The expense of hiring an attorney is a real expense that should not be taken lightly. But the expense of correcting orders, post final judgments, tend to be two or three times more expensive. I take my responsibility of providing you with adequate legal advice very seriously. I look to anticipate issues and provide a permanent resolution so that you are not one of the many clients trying to fix the unfixable or worse, left with no choices once a order has been rendered.
